I keep too many tabs open in my Chrome browser at the same time.
One day last week, I actually counted thirty-two open tabs in my browser at the same time! No wonder I feel Schizophrenia looming. There is no possible way that my brain can process so much information at the same time. I need to simplify in order to more fully commit my energy to the task at hand.
There are a few reasons that this is problematic for me:
- It's decreasing the efficiency of my computer.
- It's creating a syndrome where I do not focus on the task at hand to completion. I decrease my productivity because I'm distracted by notifications in other tabs or tempted to "just check in" on a social media venue instead of focusing on the current project.
- It's keeping me from relying on trusted productivity tools that I should be using instead -- Evernote, my Neat scanner, and Google calendar to name a few.
Instead of immediately resorting to a Chrome plugin to solve my woes, I'm going to attempt to break myself of this bad habit manually. Optimally, I'll have no more than five open tabs at any one time.
Your turn: Do you suffer from "Too Many Tabs" syndrome?
