On Mondays, I share my thoughts on Working @ Home.
I want to say a special thank you to my friend and productivity mentor Mike St. Pierre for featuring an interview with me on his great site, The Daily Saint.
I find it strangely ironic that Mike was featuring his interview during the same week that I was desperately struggling to get my productivity ducks in a row! If you were reading last week, you found me blogging about my efforts to create a "time budget".
Certain aspects of the process went very well, but others were a dismal failure. I guess this is one of those situations where I need to give myself a pat on the back for trying, despite falling short, and for not giving up. My time budget spreadsheet contained a few too many items that didn't get checked off each day. I was overly ambitious with my tasks for Monday and Tuesday, and didn't account for a few items that cropped up unexpectedly later in the week. But that's the way life usually works, so I shouldn't have been surprised.
One thing I continually find in the area of working from home is that I am much harder on myself than I would be if I were working from an office with someone else as my boss. In the old days, I frequently worked overtime, but never to the extend that I tend to do now in working from my own home. I'll bet those of you with home businesses know this to be the truth in your case too. It's all too easy to pop into our home offices for a few minutes and not emerge for hours!
So my efforts to balance productivity and family continue - and that's what this blog is all about! Thanks to Mike St. Pierre for the opportunity to discuss some of my favorite topics on your site, despite the fact that I fall short of the ideal!
Is your week off to a great start? Have you planned ahead and allotted time for unexpected "situations" that arise? Are you hopeful that this will be your best week ever?
