On Tuesdays, I share my thoughts on Family Life.
One of a mom's key productivity tools is the family calendar. Yours may be "day at a glance" or online or stuck to the wall with a thumbtack. Regardless, you need a system that will help you keep track of your family's activities and communicate the schedule to others who need to be involved in that process as well.
One of the best calendars I've seen to meet both of those goals are the Family Organizers from BusyBody Book. Their planners have evolved and now come in a variety of styles. I'm happy to have had the opportunity to review the all new 2009 Busy Body Wall Calendar. Some of the features of this calendar include:
- seven spacious columns for your larger family or your additional planning needs
- a week-per-page layout that can hang as a one- or two-week view
- two six-months-months-at-a-glance pages to help plan ahead for the holidays, vacations, or special events
- a page for next year's important appointments and events
- key contacts pages for your emergency contact information and the phone numbers of doctors, coaches or babysitters
- a 4-inch pocket on the inside back cover to hold important papers, receipts or coupons
I love the "grid" system used by the BusyBody calendars, as it enables me to focus on both my family's activities and some of my own personal productivity areas. The seven columns enable me to track each family member's "stuff" plus my own business activities, workout/nutrition goals, and spiritual disciplines. If you have a large family, you'll have plenty of space to keep track of the gang. The calendar's date spaces have plenty of room for even your most activity packed days.
I love the idea of placing this calendar in a centralized place where everyone can communicate about and plan for events, homework assignments, rehearsals and more.
